The Power Industry Fundamentals program sets the stage for those entering the electrical energy production and distribution field. Students learn about the many ways in which electricity can be produced, energy distribution and transmission, the economics involved in energy production, and the environmental impacts of distributing electrical power.

Key content includes the following: Introduction to the Power Industry, Basic Safety, Introduction to Construction Math, Introduction to Hand Tools, Introduction to Power Tools, Introduction to Construction Drawings, Basic Rigging, Basic Communication Skills, Basic Employability Skills and Introduction to Materials Handling.

This course is a curriculum requirement to the Power Line Worker Training program.

Power Line Worker Training Components: Potential Certifications: Upon successful completion of this program, students will earn the following certifications: AHA's Heartsaver First Aid, OSHA 10 Construction, VDOT's Work Zone Flagger, as well as NCCER's Core-Introductory Craft Skills and Power Industry Fundamentals.
