This program sets the stage for those entering the electrical energy production and distribution field and serves as a curriculum requirement to the Power Line Worker program. Students learn about the many ways in which electricity can be produced, energy distribution and transmission, the economics involved in energy production and delivery, and the environmental impacts of distributing electrical power. This curriculum consists of NCCER's basic construction skills program, Core-Introductory Craft Skills, and an introductory module on the power industry.

Its modules cover topics such as:
  • Introduction to the Power Industry
  • Basic Safety
  • Introduction to Construction Math
  • Introduction to Hand Tools
  • Introduction to Power Tools
  • Introduction to Construction Drawings
  • Basic Communication Skills
  • Basic Employability Skills
  • Introduction to Material Handing
Length: 80 Course Hours

Potential Certifications:
Upon successful completion of this program, students will earn the following certifications:
  • AHA Heartsaver First Aid
  • OSHA 10 Construction
  • VDOT Work Zone Flagger
  • NCCER Core-Introductory Craft Skills
  • NCCER Power Industry Fundamentals.

Supplies and Fees: Tuition includes cost of textbook, supplies, and NCCER subscription fee.
